Delhi polls: Can the ‘guarantee campaign’ propel Congress to podium finish? |
New Delhi: What should one expect of a party that had failed to win even a single seat in the last two assembly elections and compliments it with the same results in the three consecutive Lok Sabha elections in the national capital? As on date, the Congress’s score is zero out of 70 in Delhi Assembly and zero out of 7 in Lok Sabha seats from Delhi. Its vote share was barely 4 per cent in the last (2020) Assembly elections and its candidates lost deposits in at least 63 constituencies. Going by these results, the Congress looks practically finished as an electoral force in Delhi and even a marginally better performance next month will be a matter of kudos for the party. But given the super charged political atmosphere of Delhi in which AAP and BJP are throwing punches at each other on hourly basis and in the process emerged as the main contenders, even a marginally improved performance looks like a distant dream for Congress. Or is there a surprise in store?
