Sun unleashes strong X1.6 solar flare, causing radio blackout and incoming geomagnetic storm

The Sun emitted a strong solar flare, classified as an X1.6 flare. The Solar Dynamic Observatory (SDO) of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), captured an image of the event. The burst of energy in the Solar Cycle 25 peaked at 10:22 PM ET on May 2, 2024, or 7:52 AM IST on May 3, 2024, resulting in a strong radio blackout. The coronal mass ejection will cause a minor and moderate geomagnetic storm when it reaches Earth.

The solar flare is seen as a bright flash towards the upper middle area of the Sun. The image showcases a subset of extreme ultraviolet light that highlights the extremely hot material in flares, colorised in teal. The X.16........
