Kerala Assembly Elections 2026: Know how many candidates face criminal charges in state and how many are millionaires

An ADR report showed that there has been a considerable jump in the number of candidates with criminal background contesting the Kerala Assembly Elections, this year, as compared to 2021. This year 324 of the 863 candidates in the state have a criminal track record. Similarly the number of millionaires contesting the Assembly Elections in the state have also risen to 339.

New Delhi: Political activity in Kerala is in full force given the upcoming Assembly Elections, which are scheduled for April 9. This year the state is going to see a single-phase elections. The Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) has come up with a report which reveals that 38% of the candidates in this year’s Assembly Elections in the state have declared criminal cases against themselves. Meanwhile, 39% are millionaires.

The ADR analysed the affidavits of 863 candidates who are participating in the elections this year. Out of this 324 have criminal cases filed against them. Of these 324, 201 candidates are accused in serious criminal cases, said the report. If we compare it to the data from 2021, at the time out of the total 928 candidates, 355 had criminal cases against them, out of which 167 were accused of serious offences.
