Tirupati MP and YSRCP leader Dr Maddila Gurumoorthy has urged the Central government to consider holding at least two parliamentary sessions in south India. He termed bad weather and pollution in New Delhi as a significant impediment to effective proceedings.
In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, Dr Gurumoorthy highlighted the benefits of decentralising sessions, including improved productivity and stronger national integration.

In his letter, he also referred to Dr BR Ambedkar’s writings on linguistic states and a 1968 private member’s bill by Prakash Veer Shastri which advocated for the same proposal. The MP said the climate of south India, which is free from the extreme heat, cold and humidity that often troubles Delhi, could create a conducive environment for smooth parliamentary operations. He also called the dangerous air pollution during Delhi’s winters a health concern. Congress MP from Bhongir Komatireddy Venkat Reddy has expressed support.
Supporting the YSRCP MP, Karti Chidambaram, Congress MP from Sivaganga in Tamil Nadu, wrote on ‘X’, tagging Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar, “I endorse the suggestion.”
