Ukraine contracts around 1,000 Patriot missiles from allies as Russia steps up air strikes

Ukraine is contracting around 1,000 missiles for its US-designed Patriot air-defence systems with help from allies and an EU loan, but most deliveries are expected only in the coming years as Kyiv seeks more immediate supplies.

New Delhi: Ukraine is contracting around 1,000 missiles for US-designed Patriot air-defence systems with support from its allies and a European Union loan, Ukrainian Defence Minister Yevhenii Khmara said on Tuesday.

Khmara made the announcement during a meeting of the Ukraine Defence Contact Group, as Kyiv faces renewed Russian missile and drone attacks and seeks to strengthen its air defences ahead of winter.

However, most of the missiles under the contracts are expected to be delivered only over the coming years. Khmara therefore called on Ukraine’s Western partners to provide more........
