Before 9/11, Osama bin Laden considered India for terror attacks, say CIA files
Newly declassified CIA intelligence briefs from 1998 show that al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden was considering attacks in India and several other countries years before the September 11 attacks in the US.
New Delhi: Al-Qaeda founder Osama bin Laden had considered India as a potential target for terrorist attacks years before the September 11, 2001 attacks in the United States, according to newly declassified CIA documents.
The US Central Intelligence Agency on September 11 released 71 President’s Daily Brief products linked to bin Laden and al-Qaeda, covering the period before and immediately after the 9/11 attacks. The release, marking the 25th anniversary of 9/11, includes more than 100 pages of intelligence assessments that had previously remained classified.
