Vijay fails to prove majority in Tamil Nadu, Governor puts oath on hold
Vijay’s bid to form the government in Tamil Nadu suffered a setback after Governor R V Arlekar reportedly refused to clear his swearing-in without proof of majority support. The TVK chief failed to secure backing from enough MLAs to cross the 118-mark in the 234-member Assembly after the IUML and AMMK declined support.
New Delhi: Vijay’s bid to form the government in Tamil Nadu hit a roadblock after the actor-politician failed to secure the support of 118 MLAs required for a majority in the 234-member Assembly. The IUML and TTV Dhinakaran-led AMMK refused to back the TVK, dealing a setback to the party despite support from Congress, CPI and CPM. Governor RV Arlekar has not invited Vijay to take oath as Chief Minister after asking him to submit written support letters from a majority of legislators.
