12 Years Of Digital Revolution: How PM Modi’s Vision Democratised Technology For India’s Weakest Sections
As India marks these 12 years, the digital revolution stands as a testament to visionary governance that puts technology at the service of humanity
Twelve years into Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, India has witnessed a profound digital transformation that has not only modernised governance but truly democratised access to technology. Far from being an elite phenomenon, this revolution has reached the remotest villages, empowering the poorest, women, farmers, and marginalised communities. At its heart lies the JAM Trinity — Jan Dhan (zero-balance bank accounts), Aadhaar (unique digital identity), and Mobile connectivity — which has served as the bedrock for transparent, leakage-free welfare delivery.
This is not mere digitisation; it is a quiet revolution that has transferred over ₹49 lakh crore directly into the bank accounts of beneficiaries through Direct Benefit Transfers (DBT), bypassing corrupt intermediaries and ghost beneficiaries. Savings from plugging leakages have crossed ₹3.48 lakh crore, with beneficiary coverage exploding from just 11 crore in 2014 to over 176 crore today. Subsidy expenditure as a share of government spending has halved from 16% to 9%, freeing resources for genuine development.
