There are three to five lakh mosques in India, second only to Indonesia, which has 8 lakh masjids. There has been no instance of Hindus objecting to the names of any one of them.

But a Trinamool Congress politician from West Bengal with a deviously fertile mind came up with that one name, which can cause untold trouble.

Murshidabad Trinamool MLA Humayun Kabir was suspended from the party after he proposed to build a replica of the Babri Masjid. He immediately vowed not to let Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee return to power for a fourth time next year.

“Trinamool’s Muslim vote bank will be finished," he said, adding with filmy flair, “Picture abhi baki hai (the climax is yet to come)."

After laying the foundation of the “Babri Masjid" in Beldanga, Kabir said he would form his own party on December 22, get into an alliance with Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi’s AIMIM, and field candidates in 135 out of 294 seats in next year’s West Bengal assembly elections.

Whether this is a staged drama at the behest of the TMC or the BJP is yet to be ascertained.
