On Memorial Day weekend, Garden Grove was an international news story for a terrifying reason: A chemical tank at a local aerospace company was in danger of exploding.
Together, our community made it through the crisis and worked together to prevent the worst outcome from happening. Our story became a story of triumph, not tragedy.
But for thousands of residents of Garden Grove, Stanton, Westminster and neighboring communities, the chemical tank incident turned everyday life upside down in a matter of hours.
Families were evacuated from their homes, small businesses were forced to close, workers lost wages and parents anxiously waited for reassurance that their children were safe.
In the midst of this crisis, our community demonstrated remarkable strength.
First responders worked around the clock, volunteers stepped up to support displaced families, while local organizations, schools, and neighbors came together to help one another.
But as the immediate emergency winds down, we cannot allow the needs of impacted residents and businesses to be forgotten.
I will continue standing with our residents and small businesses until everyone is made whole.
That means aggressively pursuing every available resource at the local, state and federal levels to support recovery.
It means ensuring displaced families receive timely assistance, helping small businesses recover lost revenue and making certain cities are not left to shoulder the full financial burden of........
