The Cuomo allegations are awful, but he still has lots of allies, a dogged will to fight

Is this the end of Gov. Cuomo?

President Biden says he should quit. Ditto the state’s Democratic congressional delegation. Also, much of the state’s political establishment. Most ominously, Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie says he thinks so, too.

But will Cuomo resign? Not likely — Attorney General Letitia James’ devastating sexual-harassment report notwithstanding, the governor is no quitter.

So now it’s up to Heastie, the man in the middle of the weirdest episode in New York politics since former Gov. Eliot Spitzer got caught with a hooker in 2008.

He said on Tuesday Cuomo has “lost the confidence of the ­Assembly Democratic majority and that he can no longer remain in office,” adding that he wants to finish an ongoing impeachment probe “as quickly as possible.”

But Cuomo isn’t necessarily toast. Concluding an impeachment investigation is not the same as effecting an impeachment.

Heastie stands at the intersection of his party’s #MeToo hyper-sensitivities and its deeply rooted hunger for pork-barrel paydays. So, some questions:

Is Heastie feeling sufficient pressure actually to pull the trigger on impeachment?

Will he really risk angering Cuomo at a time when the state is about to receive billions upon........
