Joe Kent’s Resignation Exposes Dissent and Lobby Influence in US War Policy

The resignation of a senior US counterterrorism official shows internal dissent within the US establishment over the Iran War and exposes Zionist influence over Trump.

Widespread Dissent in the US Administration

Joe Kent stated that Iran did not pose any direct or imminent threat to the US. In a post on social media, he stated, “I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran. Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby.” According to some experts, the United States needs imminent threats to start a war with any country under international law. Kent’s resignation holds immense significance as he is a prominent figure in the country. He served in the US Army for 11 years and completed 11 combat deployments, most of which were in the Middle East. He lost his first wife, Shannon Kent, in an ISIS* bombing in Manbij, Syria, in 2019.

This makes him an influential figure in the United States. When someone with such a background resigns from his position due to his reservations about sending the young soldiers to a futile and unnecessary war, it carries weight. His resignation further strengthens the speculation that there is widespread dissent in the US establishment over the country’s involvement in this war. However, most of the US officials do not possess the courage to express their dissent. The US congressional briefings also show that there is significant dissent among the US officials over President Trump’s decisions to attack Iran.

Historical Parallels and Lessons Ignored

Despite this high level of disagreement in the US establishment, the Trump administration’s war on Iran continues. The Trump administration has reverted to an old playbook. It used the very explanations — deterrence, security, and stability — that the United States used in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Vietnam. Joe Kent refused to play by the rules set by President Trump. However, Washington’s insistence on its false claims is reminiscent of the former US Secretary of State George C. Marshall’s opposition to President Harry S. Truman in 1947 over the issue of recognizing Israel. He was also a former military person who led the US military in World War 2. He also played a pivotal role in designing post-war Europe.

Likewise, he was highly critical of recognizing Israel, as he considered that it would lead to long-term regional conflict and instability. Nevertheless, President Harry S. Truman went ahead and recognized Israel, despite his reservations. Nonetheless, the world has seen that his concerns were valid. The US recognition and alignment with Israel has become a burden on the US taxpayers. Israel has been the biggest recipient of US aid since its creation. The United States also openly supported Israel’s war crimes and genocidal operations in Gaza. The United States often considers Israel’s threat perception as its own.

The Influence of Lobbying on US Foreign Policy

Joe Kent’s resignation has exposed the US state in multiple ways. It shows that the Trump administration does not hold democratic values, allowing others to disagree with its policies. It also reveals that the Trump administration is highly influenced by the Zionist lobbies, like the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), in the United States. Moreover, it illustrates that US foreign policy is shaped by domestic Zionist pressure and undeclared alliance commitments with Israel. It further reveals that the Trump administration cannot prioritize the US interests over Israel’s strategic interests.

It raises serious questions about the US government’s ability to make decisions independently. Washington has been engaged in an unnecessary war with detrimental impacts on US hegemony, economy, and its international standing. The US strikes on Iran in June last year, and its recent attack after the Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu visited Washington show that US foreign policy, under the Trump administration, is actually dictated by Israel. The Trump administration claimed that Iran was preparing to attack the United States. However, the Pentagon and US intelligence agencies have refuted all such claims, revealing that it was merely the Israeli pressure that forced the country into this unnecessary war.

Indeed, Kent resigned from his position to secure the interests of the United States. However, his resignation alone is not enough to emancipate the country from the Zionist lobby’s influence. It needs to be followed by nationwide protests and campaigns against the Trump administration’s decision to start this war and prioritize Israeli interests over US international ambitions. The US citizens must speak out against such misguided decisions and demand accountability from those in power, particularly President Trump. Otherwise, Kent’s objection will be ignored and forgotten just like the Marshalls, and US citizens will have to bear its consequences eventually.
