Two Killed, Three Wounded After Gunmen Open Fire In Quetta

Two members of the Hazara community were killed and three others injured in a targeted attack in Quetta on Sunday, raising fresh concerns over the security of the minority group.

According to senior police official Muhammad Khair Sumalani, unidentified assailants opened fire on a group of men as they were returning to Hazara Town from the Hazarganji fruit and vegetable market. “Armed men riding motorcycles targeted their vehicle, killing two people on the spot and injuring three,” he said, adding that the nature of the incident suggested a targeted killing.

Hospital officials confirmed the casualties, with Civil Hospital spokesperson Wasim Bag stating that two bodies and three injured individuals had been brought in. The injured were later shifted to Bolan Medical College Hospital, where one remains in critical condition.

Provincial Home Minister Mir Ziaullah Langove confirmed the incident and visited the hospital to inquire after the wounded. Police sources indicated that two to three attackers were involved and fled immediately after the shooting. A search operation has since been launched, though no group has claimed responsibility so far.

Sarfraz Bugti condemned the attack, describing it as a “cowardly and reprehensible act” and directed authorities to submit a detailed report. He also assured that those responsible would be brought to justice.

In response, members of the Hazara community staged a protest, blocking the Western Bypass and disrupting traffic across the city. Protesters demanded stronger security measures, arguing that repeated attacks highlight persistent vulnerabilities.
