The changing culture of extreme mountain climbing is at the centre of The Last First: Winter K2, a new documentary now available to stream on Apple TV, revisiting one of the most dangerous and emotionally charged mountaineering expeditions in recent history.
Released on the streaming platform on Friday, the documentary focuses on the 2021 attempt to achieve the first winter ascent of K2, the world’s second-highest mountain and one of the most technically demanding peaks for climbers. The expedition ended in tragedy when legendary Pakistani mountaineer Muhammad Ali Sadpara, Iceland’s John Snorri and Chile’s Juan Pablo Mohr Prieto lost their lives while attempting to reach the summit.
