Whackjob Politics Fall Short of an Upset in South Carolina Primaries

Trump ally Senator Lindsey Graham won the South Carolina primary vote on Tuesday, narrowly avoiding a runoff with right-wing challenger Mark Lynch, a South Carolina small business owner and Baptist deacon running an “America First” campaign. Graham barely held on to 50 percent of the vote in polling leading up to Tuesday, but cleared the vote with a 6.8 percentage point margin. This was still the closest Senator Graham has been to a runoff vote in his twenty-three years in the Senate. 

Evidently, Lynch’s platform moved some Republican voters who might be frustrated with Graham’s hawkish tendencies or are simply bored with the D.C. establishment. But Lynch killed his credibility with a sufficient number of voters by descending into........
