The Case for JD Vance to Wait

Over the weekend, we got the latest periodic story citing anonymous sources as claiming Vice President J.D. Vance won’t run for president in 2028. While I question the report, I do think there is a logic in him waiting another four years.

To be clear, I believe Vance will ultimately run for many of the same reasons that Dan McLaughlin gave when another report of this kind cropped up a few months ago. The bottom line is if you have the inside track to win one of the major party presidential nominations, and in a two-party system winning a nomination gives you close to a 50-50 chance of becoming president, you take your chances. Waiting another four years introduces a lot more uncertainty into the equation.
