Despite the 10-day truce between Israel and Lebanon announced by U.S. President Donald Trump midday on Thursday, it’s unlikely that Hezbollah will give up its war against the Jewish state unless it’s forced to submit — something the Lebanese government is incapable of doing and the international community is unwilling to.

When I visited Israel in May 2024, large swaths of the north had been turned into ghost towns, with around 60,000 residents fleeing the region and packing into government-subsidized hotel rooms in the centre of the country due to incessant rocket fire coming from Lebanon.
