Montrealers (especially women) live with the trauma of the Polytechnique massacre, so a part of me did wonder if this, too, would turn out to be another angry male taking out his disappointment at the world by shooting at it.
I didn’t have to wait long to confirm the sinking feeling in my stomach. After accessing the killer’s 104-page manifesto, I was treated to a bitter and misogynistic pity party, the blame game of someone who felt entitled to women’s attention and affection.
A lot has been written about the shooter’s plan and intended targets. I won’t speculate on that. His manifesto is a confusing and confused, long-winded, bizarre and often contradictory patchwork of references and theories.
He blames capitalism, liberalism and feminism. He’s at one-point pro-police and then anti-police, anti-trans, anti-Zionist,........
