Mulcair: Stars begin to align for Quebec Liberals |
There’s a basic rule in political communications: When you’re being hit by bad news, come up with bigger news of your own.
The Quebec Liberals successfully used that manoeuvre over the weekend when they found a useful antidote to yet another bad week for their beleaguered leader, Charles Milliard: They brought out a raft of big-name candidates for the next election.
And a very impressive list it is.
Among the biggest names expected to be confirmed is Michel Leblanc, the highly respected former head of the Chamber of Commerce of Metropolitan Montreal. Leblanc served as president of that business group for 10 years, and was a steady, oft-quoted presence in key economic files.
Star candidates do two major things for an election campaign:
First, they help showcase the array of talent, experience and expertise a party has been able to bring together around its platform and policies.
Second, and more subtly, the arrival of well-known figures sends a positive message to the electorate: Serious people........
