For the first time, Palestinians abroad publicly criticise the Palestinian Authority
For the first time since its establishment in 2017, the Popular Conference for Palestinians Abroad has issued a direct and explicit criticism of the Palestinian Authority (PA). This comes after the PA’s actions in the occupied West Bank, particularly in Jenin and its refugee camp, reached an intolerable level.
The heartbreaking images of young Palestinians being humiliated, forced under torture to chant slogans in support of Mahmoud Abbas, and even being shot with live bullets, cross all red lines. These obscene violations confirm the futility of any attempt to reconcile with a PA leadership that has chosen security coordination with the Israeli occupation as its permanent strategy and competes to demonstrate loyalty to the occupier at the expense of the people and their cause.
Since its inception, the Popular Conference for Palestinians Abroad has focused on uniting Palestinian efforts while steering clear of political disputes. It has prioritised highlighting the suffering of Palestinians, particularly in the diaspora, and supporting their resilience in the homeland. However, the atrocities committed in the West Bank under the guise of “maintaining order” have compelled the Conference to break its silence.
