I was an asylum seeker but with GCSEs I now have a new start in life

Receiving your GCSE results is a nerve-wracking time for all young people, but this day has given me a second chance at a future.

I’ll never forget the day I was trafficked, back in 2016.

The journey was long, full of unimaginable pain and completely dehumanising. I still find it difficult to talk or even think about this time of my life.

But even as I reached the UK, the pain and fear didn’t stop. I knew I had to escape the people who bought me here. I didn’t know what was going to happen or where I was going to go. I knew nobody. I was a young 16-year-old girl, alone and terrified.

I was eventually taken into local authority care in Birmingham. Though I was safe, I was still anxious.

I didn’t know whether they’d accept me for who I am. When you’ve been trafficked and exploited, it’s hard to trust anyone. You........
