Labour to start replacing Luciana Berger NEXT WEEK for Liverpool Wavertree seat selection

The Labour Party will begin the process of replacing Luciana Berger with a new Labour candidate for the Liverpool Wavertree seat as early as next week.

A strongly worded email from party chairman Ian Lavery and sent to constituency members announced the fast-tracking of the process - and hit out at Ms Berger.

She was one of seven MPs to quit the party yesterday in protest at its leadership under Jeremy Corbyn.

The seven members will now sit as an Independent Group of MPs in Parliament.

Speculation has already started to grow about who Labour could choose as a candidate to challenge Ms Berger in the next General Election - which isn't scheduled to take place until 2022, but many feel will come earlier because of the ongoing Brexit deadlock.

And it looks like Labour aren't wasting any time.

Mr Lavery's email to Wavertree members said: "On 8 June 2017 Luciana Berger won a resounding victory here in Liverpool Wavertree, increasing the Labour vote by 8.2%.
