SNC-Lavalin scandal lays bare Liberal hypocrisy

As is often the case, there’s a tweet for everything.

Three days before Halloween in 2013, with Prime Minister Stephen Harper armpits-deep in the Senate scandal, Justin Trudeau let loose with 81 blistering characters. “RT to call on the Prime Minister to testify on the PMO Ethics Scandal under oath,” he wrote. Several Liberal Party press releases calling for the same thing buttressed Trudeau’s tweeted righteousness.

The following November, Liberal caucus tabled a motion “that would have compelled everyone involved in the Senate scandal currently engulfing the Prime Minister’s Office to testify, under oath, in front of the House ethics committee,” as Trudeau put in a speech.

Anyone who reads the above today without an accompanying sense of anger and cynicism is either a blinkered Liberal partisan, a blind idiot or both. As we venture into week three of the SNC-Lavalin affair, in which the PMO is alleged to have pressured former justice minister Jody Wilson-Raybould to spare criminal charges against the Quebec-based engineering behemoth, Liberals used their majority on the Commons justice committee to limit the witnesses to be heard in the SNC-Lavalin affair.
