Kuwait International Airport Open with Limited Flights in Phased Recovery on May 20, 2026

KUWAIT CITY — Kuwait International Airport remains open and handling commercial passenger flights under a phased reopening plan as of Wednesday, May 20, 2026, following its closure earlier in the year.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation reopened Kuwaiti airspace on April 23, 2026. Commercial operations resumed on April 26 from Terminal 4 for Kuwait Airways and Terminal 5 for Jazeera Airways. Terminal 1 stays closed for repairs after sustaining damage during regional events.

Authorities described the process as gradual to ensure safety while infrastructure work continues. The airport operates daily from approximately 06:00 to 18:00 or later on some days, with recent extensions noted toward 22:00 in mid-May.

Operations run at roughly 10 percent of pre-closure capacity, handling around 40 flights daily with balanced arrivals and departures. National carriers lead the recovery, expanding routes incrementally.

Kuwait Airways operates from Terminal 4 and reached approximately 29 destinations by early May under Phase 2, which began May 3. Routes include London, Paris, Dubai, Istanbul, Cairo, Mumbai, New Delhi, Jeddah and Riyadh.
