I wouldn’t exactly say that all I know about life I have learned from football, but I sometimes wonder what sort of a person I would have become had I not given myself over to the intense range of emotions, the deep feeling of attachment and the capricious nature of fortune that comes with being the supporter of a football team.
A better adjusted person, perhaps; one with a greater sense of perspective, less irrational, and not governed at regular intervals by things over which he has no control. And, this morning for certain, a happier, more fulfilled person, one who can go about his work without having an aching void in the pit of his stomach.
It is, I suppose, axiomatic that any high point in life must be accompanied by a low of equal dimension, and we Manchester City followers know just how that feels today. For the past 12 years, City have been the most successful team in English football, winning the Premier League eight times, including the last four in succession, and........
