The opening up of its nuclear value chain will aid India’s efforts to achieve energy security

In recent years, the government has promoted nuclear power as a key component in the country’s efforts to achieve energy security. It’s a relatively clean source of electricity that doesn’t have the uncertainties associated with renewables, and can, therefore, fulfil the need for baseload power. However, nuclear energy accounts for only 3 per cent of the overall power generation today. The country has set a short-term goal to increase its nuclear power capacity to 22.5 GW by 2032, and a long-term target to reach 100 GW by 2047.
