Google Just Tapped Intel for a Massive AI Infrastructure Play
Intel is slowly becoming an AI giant.

Intel is expanding its partnership with Google to advance the use of artificial intelligence-focused central processing units in its infrastructure.
This follows a recent partnership from Intel with Elon Musk’s Terafab project, which aims to build chips for Tesla, SpaceX, and xAI. In a Tuesday announcement, Intel stated it would work with Musk’s brands to “design, fabricate, and package ultra-high-performance chips at scale.”
Alongside Google, Intel will continue to deploy its Xeon processors to support a broad range of work and general-purpose computing.
“AI is reshaping how infrastructure is built and scaled,” Intel chief executive Lip-Bu Tan said in a company press release. “Scaling AI requires more than accelerators — it requires balanced systems. CPUs and IPUs are central to delivering the performance, efficiency and flexibility modern AI workloads demand.”

As more companies shift from training AI models to deploying them, demand is rising for general‑purpose CPU chips capable of handling massive, real‑world workloads. And it’s putting pressure on chipmakers, like Intel, to deliver hardware that’s flexible, efficient, and built for continuous use.
For Musk, his demand comes in the form of speed. The new Terafab project aims to create a new semiconductor mega-factory that will push out multiple AI chips faster than its current chipmakers at TSMC, the Taiwanese Semiconductor Manufacturing Company.
For Google, efficiency is key. Intel’s AI chips will help accelerate and manage data center tasks by offloading them from its current CPUs. The company will also use Intel’s latest Xeon 6 chips.
