Michael Posner has some ways to think about the standards you can set and choices you can make while still growing a business. Posner is the director of the Center for Business and Human Rights at NYU’s Stern School of Business, and he helped found Human Rights First in 1978 and was its first executive director. He’s written recently extensively about online disinformation, how social media fuels political polarization, and has testified before Congress about social media and international human rights.

His new book is Conscience Incorporated: Pursue Profits While Protecting Human Rights, which will be published in December by NYU Press. Posner spoke from his office in New York City about the future of ecological and human-rights regulations that founders can expect in coming years. This conversation took place before the 2024 election.
