Workplace Stress and Bullying Are Linked to 840,000 Deaths a Year, New Study Finds

An ILO report shows toxic work environments are driving widespread cardiovascular and mental‑health deaths worldwide.

Punishing workloads, high stress jobs, and toxic working environments have been linked to disengagement, high turnover rates, and reputation-shredding employer reviews by departed staffers. But even those aren’t the worst responses to those stressors. A new study indicates a range of negative “psychosocial” workplace factors—including inordinate pressure and bullying—are now provoking more than 840,000 premature employee deaths each year.
