Why Jim Beam’s Flagship Bourbon Distillery Is Doing Dry 2026

The Kentucky whiskey maker is closing its main production site for the next year, a reflection of powerful market trends and high inventory.

Kentucky bourbon maker Jim Beam is joining the dry-January trend — for all of 2026. The company has said it will close its flagship distillery throughout next year, as it faces declining sales resulting from import tariffs and decreased drinking habits at home.

Jim Beam said it will be shuttering its main distillery in Clermont, Kentucky, through all of 2026, although fans of its famous bourbon won’t have to worry about running out of their favorite libation. A statement from the Suntory Global Spirits-owned company said the pause offers “the opportunity to invest in site enhancements.” But other comments suggest that bulging supplies amid declining sales were the major factor in the decision.
