The chilling warnings that artificial intelligence (AI) tools risk wiping out millions of jobs has mercifully failed to pan out—so far. However, the tech is generating big changes elsewhere. Spreading use of apps is leading many companies to flip their pay strategies, and as a part of that they’re lavishing piles of cash on recruits with top skills in developing and deploying AI in similar ways giants like Meta and Google have.
