President Donald Trump attends the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland, on Jan. 21.

After first threatening another trade war and then hinting at an actual one to wrest control of Greenland away from Denmark, President Donald Trump backed down from all his threats and claimed victory.

Trump crowed about a “framework of a future deal” — reminiscent of his “concept of a plan” to solve the healthcare crisis — as sufficient to end a weeks-long crisis of his own creation.

“Based upon a very productive meeting that I have had with the Secretary General of NATO, Mark Rutte, we have formed the framework of a future deal with respect to Greenland and, in fact, the entire Arctic Region,” Trump posted on his social media platform. “This solution, if consummated, will be a great one for the United States of America, and all NATO Nations. Based upon this understanding, I will not be imposing the Tariffs that were scheduled to go into effect on February 1st.”

Trump had announced he would levy 10% tariffs on all imports from Denmark and seven other NATO allies who held a joint exercise in Greenland after he began his latest round of bluster about the Arctic island.

That tax, which like all US........
