Donald Trump’s envoy to Greenland has called for Denmark to be “hospitable” towards the US even as the White House eyes up a possible takeover.
Jeff Landry, who is also the Governor of Louisiana, made the remark while responding to reports that British troops may soon be deployed to Greenland to protect the Arctic island.
Writing on X, he said: “History matters. The US defended Greenland’s sovereignty during WWII when Denmark couldn’t.
“After the war, Denmark re-occupied it – side stepping and ignoring UN protocol. This should be about hospitality, not hostility.”
Denmark’s ambassador to the US, Jesper Moller Sorensen, replied: “Yes, history does matter.”
