Donald Trump has hit out at Emmanuel Macron after the French president tried to explain why he had left the G7 summit early.

The US president stunned his fellow leaders by flying back to Washington before the gathering had ended.

French president Emmanuel Macron claimed his US counterpart departed so he could work on a truce between Iran and Israel, who have just exchanged fire for the fifth day in a row.

But in an angry post on Truth Social, the US president said his French counterpart was “wrong” to say he had returned to Washington for ceasefire talks.
