Scream 7 Star Anna Camp Apologises After Controversial Repost About Boycott

The release of the seventh Scream film was marred in controversy following the firing of franchise regular Melissa Barrera.

Scream 7 actor Anna Camp has apologised for resharing a post about the film’s release that she said did not “reflect” her “personal beliefs”.

The roll-out for the seventh Scream movie has been a particularly turbulent one, dating back to 2023, when franchise regular Melissa Barrera was fired from the latest instalment due to her comments speaking out in support of Palestine amid the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

Shortly after this, the film’s director parted ways with the project, as did Melissa’s co-star Jenna Ortega.

Because of the way things played out with regards to Melissa’s exit, many pro-Palestine voices called for a boycott of Scream 7 in the lead-up to its release.

After the film hit cinemas, and it was reported to have made around $100 million in its opening weekend, cast member Anna reshared a post from X on her Instagram page, which read: “The boycott didn’t work, the critics’ hate didn’t work, the pathetic leaks didn’t work.

“What worked was audiences coming out and making the film a success.”

She accompanied this with a blast of Taylor Swift’s Karma.

However, after facing backlash, Anna removed the post and shared an apology.

“It has come to my attention that I reposted someone else’s story that does not reflect my personal beliefs,” the Pitch Perfect star told her X followers. “I have since deleted the repost because I absolutely meant no harm.”

Anna added: “I’m sorry to anyone who was affected.”

Scream 7 features the return of Neve Campbell to the slasher franchise as Sidney Prescott, having previously missed out on the sixth film following a dispute over pay.

Reviews for the seventh movie have been largely negative, with Scream 7 holding the unenviable record of having the series’ lowest critical score on both Rotten Tomatoes and Letterboxd.
