The Yes movement has been in need of fresh blood for quite some time, so maybe the independence campaign should put Anas Sarwar in charge.
The Labour leader appears to be doing just about everything he can to show how perfidious London rule is for Scotland.
Every time he speaks, Sarwar seems to be telling us that Keir Starmer is wrong, or that Scotland needs to mitigate the policy failures of the Labour government in Westminster.
It’s a terrible look for Labour’s man in Holyrood, but it’s the gift that keeps on giving for the SNP.
Just the other day, Sarwar was at it again. When asked about Labour refusing compensation for the Waspi women, Sarwar replied: “I don’t think the decision that the government has come to is the right one.”
He added that “a different way forward could have been found”, and said: “I agree with [the Waspi women] on their frustration, and that’s why I campaigned alongside them, and I accept that frustration… I think a fairer decision could have been made around compensation.”
Sounds pretty much like what an average, if moderate, Yesser might say.
Sarwar is becoming a regular at this. He’s now a sort of ‘Mr Worthing’ in Scottish politics.
