Striking view on major shift in Scottish Government relationship with business

One senior business figure has highlighted a significant shift in the relationship between the Scottish Government and business, with some descriptive language.

The views of one senior figure on how the relationship between business and the Scottish Government has developed over the past year are striking indeed.

His language, when I interviewed him just before Christmas, was certainly descriptive.

And, crucially, it illuminated a view that there has been a significant shift in the relationship.

Stuart Patrick, chief executive of Glasgow Chamber of Commerce, has not been slow in the past to highlight difficulties in the relationship between business and the Scottish Government.

Mr Patrick is in a good position to assess the state of this interaction, given the scale of Glasgow Chamber’s membership and the feedback he receives from these businesses.

So what did he have to say about how the relationship between business and the Scottish Government has changed?

When I asked him last month about relations between business and the Scottish Government and how he felt this situation had developed in the last year, Mr Patrick replied: “I think the wounds have been cauterised. The blood has stopped flowing.”
