Venezuela at a Crossroads

HAVANA TIMES – Venezuela today stands at a historical crossroads, with many internal contradictions in tension. This is for those who believe the answer is already written.

First, we have a government perched atop a political structure that has simply run its course. The elections of July 28, 2024 proved that it was absolutely unsustainable. The response on January 3, 2026, was the removal of the president, a change of clothes and colors, and the formalization of economic reforms. All of it aimed at convincing Venezuelans that we are facing “something new.”

If we could say those in power have anything in their favor, it is the fact that Venezuelans are exhausted by political conflict and primarily want solutions to their basic problems; and that, without a democratic opening, the opposition remains very weak and fragmented.

But the key issue is that, no matter how much they change colors, Venezuelans do not forget that this is the same regime that has........
