Remembering Srinivasa Ramanujan: An outstanding mind

Today, we celebrate the National Mathematics Day in honour of a legendary mathematician, Srinivasa Ramanujan. It was in 2012 when government of India declared that December 22 should be recognized as the National Mathematics Day, which is the birth anniversary of Ramanujan, who was born and brought up in Tamil Nadu in 1887. He earned his early education from a secondary school in Tamil Nadu itself. He was in pre-secondary when his teachers realized that Ramanujan was able to solve mathematics ahead of his syllabus. Every year, December 22 is celebrated as a National Mathematics Day in India in order to acknowledge the outstanding contributions of Ramanujan in the field of Mathematics.

Srinivasa Ramanujan made his significant contributions in:

Why his contributions made him legendary:

Ramanujan did all this at a very young age, often worked alone, guided mainly by intuition. This unmatched brilliance is why his birth anniversary is celebrated as National Mathematics Day and why his work remains a global benchmark of mathematical creativity.

His contribution to Number Theory:

Partition theory deals with the number of ways a positive integer can be expressed as a sum of smaller positive integers. This area was known to mathematicians, but it was the mathematical achievements of Ramanujan that transformed it into a deeper and more powerful field. This Indian mathematician, with remarkable intuition, discovered patterns in partitions that no one had identified........
