The Achan dumping site in Srinagar has today emerged as one of the gravest environmental and public health concerns confronting the city. The Valley, once celebrated for its clean air, scenic beauty, and fragile ecological balance, is increasingly being overshadowed by pollution, foul odour, and deteriorating living conditions caused by the unscientific disposal of waste at Achan.
For years, residents living in and around the area have been suffering silently. The dumping site has severely affected air quality and reportedly contaminated groundwater in surrounding localities.
