Respect them, Reward them
Prophet Muhammad (SAW) comprehensively detailed the profound responsibility, status, and rights of leading a prayer congregation by an Imam in several significant teachings. The Prophet said, “Let the best among you call the Adhan for you and let the best of you in reciting the Qur’an be your Imams.” He taught that Imams who lead their congregations in a manner that pleases the people will hold a place of high honour in the Hereafter, saying: “There will be three persons on the mounds of Musk... one of whom will be the Imam of a people, and they will be pleased with him.” The Prophet emphasized that an Imam is a spiritual leader (the “deputy” in prayer), and the congregation must ensure their rights are respected and supported.
Prophet Muhammad (SAW) made numerous statements regarding the Imam (leader), which are primarily classified into two main contexts: the leader of congregational prayer and the leader of the Islamic community. The Prophet (SAW) stated that the Imam is designated to be followed, teaching Muslims to bow, stand, and prostrate only after the Imam does so. He instructed that the person who should lead the prayer ought to be one who is most knowledgeable of the Book of Allah (Quran), followed by those most knowledgeable of the Sunnah.
