We need better governance

5th August 2019 will be remembered as a historical day when the article 370 was abrogated and &K State reduced to the status of Union Territory. The Article 370 of Indian constitution would grant a special status to the erstwhile state of J&K. After 1953, particularly after 1964, the article had lost its sheen and strength due to various amendments made in this article by the competent authority on the recommendations of the local rulers/SLA from time to time when the Indian National Congress was ruling at the centre. The former PM. Late Sh. Morar-ji Desai had once said that Article 370 giving special status and powers to J&K state has become an empty shell. Even SMA during his tenure as CM had said that article 370 is not a divine article that could not be abrogated. Yes, also the article was misused by the local rulers to fulfil their vested interests after keeping the intervention of the central government at bay.

The people of the Union Territory have always been suffering due to the miss-governance of local rulers since 1947 even when the Article 370 was in place. The governments of all times would depend on the central aid and subsidies. The state has always been deficient in revenue and was not sufficient to even meet the salaries of their employees.
