I tried Gleddoch Golf and Spa Resort near Glasgow - my verdict

Surrounded by peaceful countryside with a view looking over to Dumbarton, the Gleddoch Golf and Spa Resort is ideal for a mid-week escape or weekend getaway just a short drive or train journey from Glasgow. 

The stunning hotel, built back in 1926, has 75 bedrooms and suites, award-winning drinking and dining areas, an 18-hole championship golf course and a stunning new spa which is described as “a decadent tribute to the grandeur of a bygone era”.  

The Royal Suite, Gleddoch Golf & Spa Resort  

On arrival to the resort for a one-night stay in late November, my friend and I were surprised and delighted to find we had been given The Royal Suite (from £325 per night). The suite is where Her Majesty The Queen used to sleep whenever she stayed at Gleddoch House when she would launch new ships from nearby Ferguson’s Shipyard.  

Described as “literally fit for a queen”, the room was decadently decorated in a mix of dark blues, gold and black and featured a separate living room with a sofa bed and kitchenette, a large bathroom with both a walk-in rain shower , luxury toiletries and roll-top bath, and a very generously sized bedroom with plenty seating and I think the largest, and possibly comfiest, bed I have ever slept in.   

The suite was perfect, giving us two separate areas to sleep in and plenty of seating for us to enjoy our........
