Justice For Hany, At Last!
When the Bombay High Court, this Thursday, granted bail to former Delhi University professor Hany Babu, an accused in the Elgar Parishad-Bhima Koregaon case, it took a step closer to questioning and nailing the continued unjust incarceration of academics, writers, and others in a case that dates back to Jan 2018. Babu was in prison for five years and seven months, which the HC division bench of Justices AS Gadkari and RR Bhonsale termed an infringement of the Right to Life. “Prolonged incarceration and the unlikelihood of the trial being completed in a reasonable time or near future necessitate a consequential release of the undertrial on bail,” it observed.
