McKitrick: Energy Minister McCuaig-Boyd in Sherwood Park and more good news for industry

Hoping everyone is staying warm this week! My appreciation to those who have to work outside to keep all of us safe.

This week, the final decision was made by Canada Kuwait Petrochemical Corporation, which includes Pembina Pipeline Corporation, to construct a petrochemical upgrading facility in the Industrial Heartland. This is great news for Strathcona County and nearby municipalities, and will also provide employment to a variety of companies and tradespersons throughout Alberta.

I was interested in learning more about how, with the support of the Alberta government, The investment of Inter Pipeline in the Heartland Petrochemical Complex has benefited Alberta communities, specifically ours. Last Friday, the Minister of Energy, Honourable Marg McCuaig-Boyd came to Sherwood Park and met with the Chamber of Commerce, Inter Pipeline senior representatives and a number of contractors on the project to discuss the purchasing decisions that Inter Pipeline has made to ensure that Albertans and communities benefit from the investment.

Most Albertans are aware of the massive vessel that slowly made its way through our highways from its manufacturing site in Edmonton, but few may be aware that the construction of needed vessels and modules is also happening in Grande Prairie and in shops throughout Central Alberta.
