Sudbury faith: A good life, like baking, requires patience

My mom was an excellent cook. Even the pickiest of people would enjoy her cooking and go for seconds and thirds until they couldn’t move anymore.

The food was never anything fancy, but the kind that made you feel like your soul was getting a warm hug. Feeding the people in her life was my mom’s way of showing how much she loved us.

It was, then, pretty natural that she wanted to teach me how to prepare those delicious meals. Together we would bake, fry and sauté. My mom gave me many good and useful tips, but there was one that seemed to apply for everything we did: let it be.

When I was ready to put the bread into the oven or start eating already, my mom would say that the dough still needed to rise a bit longer or the gravy simmer down a bit more. I needed to be patient to make sure we would........
