Careers and College: Karen Davies retires as Algonquin College's Pembroke Campus dean

When Karen Davies arrived at the Pembroke Campus in the spring of 2006, she quickly learned that her new assignment as the campus dean was going to be different than anything she had ever experienced. Within a few weeks of starting at the campus, she was unveiling an economic impact study that spoke to how important the campus was to Renfrew County’s overall prosperity. The study had been in the works before she arrived, but its release allowed her to open a conversation with the community about the need for a new campus.

The hopes and dreams to build a new campus had been present in Pembroke for decades, but when Davies arrived from British Columbia where she had spent many years as the Regional Director of the Nechako Campus of the College of New Caledonia, the timing was right. She quickly started to build a case for a new campus, mobilizing an entire community and advocating with the senior leadership team at the college........
