COLUMN: Actually, Canadian Confederation has been a failure

2 0 0

Oh, Canada. When I say that, I mean it in a pejorative, and not positive way. Truly, how could I think anything else when most polls show contempt is commonplace?

According to a recent survey from the British Columbia-based Angus Reid Institute, a plurality of residents — above 40 per cent — of the three western-most provinces think of themselves as residents of their provinces first before seeing themselves as Canadian.

In addition, overwhelming majorities — above 60 per cent — in every region except for Ontario and B.C. felt residents throughout the rest of the nation did not respect them.

That, is insane and really, a bit dangerous.

In other countries with less effective institutions and more widespread access to firearms, you would have a civil war on your hands with such views.........
