Santas Anonymous delivery goes out to hundreds in Wood Buffalo

Students, staff and alumni of the Santas Anonymous program sent off hundreds of hampers to families living throughout the Wood Buffalo region on Friday.

Father Patrick Mercredi High School opened early and was busy with organizers preparing for the 11:30 a.m. hamper pick-up.

“This is the day that we get to put smiles on people’s faces,” said Santas Anonymous Coordinator Jennifer Pope. “We have all these amazing community members that deliver and we get so much positive feedback from them when they are delivering to those families.”

Pope is a social studies teacher at the high school. She has been involved with the student-led program for the past 11 years and coordinating it for five.

“Everyone is exhausted at this point because we’ve been here two weeks straight. But it’s such a good feeling knowing all of our hard work has paid off on this day,” she said.

“We are very grateful for the community. We are here doing the fundraising, planning and organizing but we couldn’t do it without the support of the community,” said Pope. “Fort McMurray’s known for being generous and they show us that every single year.
