Hundreds of U.S. diplomats can breathe a sigh of relief this holiday season following the decision by a U.S. judge to temporarily block the implementation of mass federal layoffs until the end of January.
A U.S. judge issued a preliminary injunction Wednesday night that bans the Trump administration from finalizing the firing of nearly 250 foreign service officers along with hundreds of other federal employees working across the U.S. government. The judge concluded that the continuing funding law passed by Congress to reopen the government on Nov. 12 explicitly banned implementation of any “reduction in force” (RIF) through Jan. 30.
